Ruth Dixon

Ruth Dixon, 81, of Kingsport, joined the angel choir playing her golden piano on Sunday, January 26, 2014. She was a member of Kingsley United Methodist Church for many years. Ruth retired after teaching for 25 years at Kingsley Elementary School. She started playing piano before her feet could even touch the pedals. Ruth was trained by a Stamps Baxter teacher out of Nashville, specializing in southern gospel music. She played for several quartets through the years and was actively involved in her church, including the choir and being the church pianist for a number of years. Ruth continued her legacy of gospel music and her love of the lord by teaching piano to her students in the same tradition she was taught. The joy of her life was the visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Dixon; mother, Josie E. Depew; father, Dana D. Depew; brother, Bob Depew; son-in-law, Sam Norris; mother-in-law, Lola Dixon; and father-in-law, Alvin Dixon.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Emma Norris, and Ethel Fowler and husband, Eddie; grandchildren, Sammy Norris, Aaron Norris, Lindsay Hinkle and Katie Tester; great-grandchildren, Erin Norris, Tyler Norris, Olivia Norris, Colton Samuel Norris and Kenlay Grace Hinkle; sister-in-law, Shirley Depew; brother-in-law, Johnny Dixon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5-7:00 pm at Kingsley United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Adam Love and Rev. Ray Amos officiating.

An entombment service will be conducted on Friday at 1:00 pm at Oak Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Kingsley United Methodist Church, 2828 Bloomingdale Rd., Kingsport, TN 37660.
