Ruth M. Herring, 92, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 11, 2013.
Mrs. Herring was born in Fort Worth, TX and grew up in Texas and Oklahoma. She graduated from Baylor University in 1941. She moved to Kingsport soon after getting married in February, 1943. During World War II, Mrs. Herring worked at Holston Ordinance. She also taught English at Dobyns-Bennett High School before her children arrived.
She was a very active member of First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and served on many committees through the years.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Raymond B. Herring.
Surviving are one daughter, Janice Ann Jones and husband, Timothy W., Sevierville, TN; one son, Raymond Mark Herring and wife, Nancy Aronson, Philadelphia, PA; two granddaughters, Derika Harr of Estero, FL and Keeley Shults of Sevierville, TN; one great-granddaughter, Austen Olivia Shults of Sevierville, TN; three nieces, Cathy Hancock, Carolyn Stoltz and Jane Pope; and three nephews, Alan Weaver, Burgess Weaver and Frank Coggins.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Marvin Cameron officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the sanctuary at the church.
