Mrs. Hubert Ruth Hilton, of Kingsport, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Indian Path Medical Center. Born in Scott County, she lived in the area or near Kingsport all her life. She was raised by her grandparents, John and Mickey Ketron and she had a great deal of love and respect for her family. Ruth worked for 14 years at T.E.C. in the Yarn Plant, leaving that job in 1955. She then worked for the Sullivan County School System in the Kingsley cafeteria for 17 years, retiring in 1985. Her hobbies were gardening and canning.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Lee Hilton, and grandparents, John and Mickey Ketron.
Ruth is survived by daughters, Mickey E. McConnell and Mrs. Joey Matilda Jo Bowen; grandchildren, Hillary Smith, Markeeta Gillenwater and Melissa Kleiner; great-grandchildren, Erin Lee EL Gillenwater, Carter Miles Gillenwater, Jordana Emmalee Kleiner and Elise Meital Kleiner; and her loyal dogs Maggie and Lucky.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Graveside services will be conducted on Friday at 1:00 pm at Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery in Gate City, VA.
Pallbearers will be Jason Gillenwater, Jeff Hickam, Michael Ketron, Jacob Perkins, Larry Duckworth, and Dave Middleton. Honorary pallbearers will be Carter Miles Gillenwater and Maggie.
When Ruth was in ICU, she lost one of the lenses from her glasses. A young man from Lenscrafters came, got the glasses, took them, replaced both lenses and the nose pieces, returned them to the hospital and wouldn't charge. He said just to stop by the mall and donate to their charity "One Sight."
