Ruth Gilmer Huettel, 86, of Kingsport died Saturday, September 27, 2014. Born in Norton, VA, she grew up in Richmond, VA and was a graduate of Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia. She was a member of the Virginia Club. Ruth worked for Condé Nast Publishing Company in New York for several years. She lived in several cities in the United States coming to Kingsport in 1977. Ruth was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed bridge, golf and her friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Leo (Joe) Huettel, Jr.; parents Allie and Henry Gilmer and two sisters, Jane Wilhelm and Elizabeth Beauchamp.
Survivors include her children, Lewis J. Huettel of Kingsport, George B. Huettel of Coral Springs, FL and John G. Huettel and wife, Kathy of Boulder CO; eight grandchildren, Regina, Apryl, Morgan, Jack, Henry, Leo, Ellie and Lily along with two great-grandchildren, Skyler and Dylan Murata.
The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Monday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Dr. A. David Cagle officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Westhampton Memorial Park in Richmond, VA.
