Ruth E. Hughes, 72, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Saturday December 15, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mrs. Hughes was born in Sullivan County to the late William H. and Fannie B. Huffman. She lived most of her life in Kingsport. She was an active member of Charity Chapel Baptist Church. Most of her life was spent as a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the father of her sons, Ray Hayes; her husband of 13 years, Harold Hughes; three brothers, Joe Huffman, Tom Huffman, Jim Huffman, and Noah Huffman.
Surviving are three sons, Johnny R. Hayes and wife, Diana, Kingsport, Frank H. Hayes and wife, Brenda, Blountville, and Homer L. Hayes and wife, Faye, Blountville; four grandchildren, Michele Pendleton and husband, Mark, Ray Hayes and wife, Victoria, Christina Smith and husband, Josh, and Wesley Hayes and wife, Stephnie; two great-grandchildren, Morgan Pendleton and Eli Hayes; sisters, Mary Qualls and husband, Bill, Margaret Hayes and husband, Adam, Grace Dishner and husband, Pete, and Martha Fleenor; one brother, J. B. Huffman and wife, Kay.
The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Mike Owens and Rev. Bob Laney officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Hayes, David Hayes, Mike Hayes, Ralph Jackson, Hiram Hayes, and Mike Patterson. Honorary pallbearers will be Lynn Light and Mark Toronjo.
