Ruth Ann Boyd Shook, 65, deaf from birth, heard her Lord welcoming her home on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 11, 2008.
Ruth Ann was born on July 13, 1942 to the late Fred and Katherine Boyd, living her entire life in Sullivan County, Tennessee. She graduated from The Tennessee School for the Deaf and from Barton's School of Cosmetology. Ruth Ann was retired as the owner and operator of Ruth Ann's Beauty Salon in Blountville. She was a member of New Beginnings Fellowship Church.
Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, Isaac Boyd.
Ruth Ann is survived by a son, Chris Shook and his wife, Renee, a daughter, Mitzi Shook, 3 granddaughters, Shani, Lydia, and Catherine, all of Blountville, and the father of her children, Fred Shook, Kingsport; two sisters, Jane Hughes and Becky Harr, Blountville; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Tuesday at Hamlett- Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Friends may also call at anytime at the home of Chris Shook, Blountville.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 8 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Leland Salyer and Rev. Guy Tilley officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday, at 2 pm in the Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery. Family and friends planning to attend are asked to meet at 1:20 Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Dale McMurray, Jeremy McMurray, David Lowe, Jerry Harr, Brian Farmer, and George Smith, Jr.
