Ruth Davis Stout of Kingsport passed away Friday, April 4, 2008, at the age of 92.
She was born in Erwin, Tennessee, on March 26, 1916, and later lived in Elizabethton, Tennessee, Beckley, West Virginia, Birmingham, Alabama, and Greensboro, North Carolina, before moving to Kingsport to be near her remaining family. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, James Stout Jr; her parents, Robert H. Davis and Lula Rice Davis; three sisters; and two brothers.
Surviving are one son, James Stout III and his wife Jean Thornton Stout of Kingsport; two step-grandchildren, Carrie Thornton Tarte of Asheville, North Carolina and Casey Thornton of Kingsport; and a beloved niece, Sue Blevins Vest and her husband, Jack Vest of Kingsport and their family.
The family will receive friends at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Monday. Graveside services will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton, Tennessee with Dr. Ron Davis officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Preschool Program at First Baptist Church, 200 West Church Circle, Kingsport, TN 37660.
