Ruth Evelyn Williamson, born in Meadowview, VA, on January 27, 1930, died at Baysmont Health Care Center on May 12, 2012. Ruth was a resident of Kingsport, TN; she was the only daughter of Marvin L. Williamson and Sallie Wright Williamson.
Ruth graduated from Emory and Henry College in 1951 and received her Master's Degree from Vanderbilt University. She taught in the Sullivan County School System and at the Palmer Center in the Kingsport School System. From there she started a school for handicapped children in Elizabethton, TN. Afterward she taught in the Health Department to future teachers for handicapped children at ETSU. Ruth was a life-long teacher in the Tennessee School System.
Ruth was a loving lady to everyone who knew her. She was a dedicated and active member of Kingsley United Methodist Church from 1963a"where she served as Sunday School teacher, Lay Leader and as the local and district President of the United Methodist Women.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Woodrow Williamson and wife Dorothy, Kenneth Williamson, and Henry C. Williamson.
She is survived by her Special Friend Wanda M. Faust; sisters-in-law, Virginia Williamson and Polly Williamson; nieces, Janet Ruth Fuller, Barbara Williamson, and Margaret Williamson; nephews, Jim Williamson and wife Sheryl, Bob Williamson and wife Julia, and Chris Williamson.
The family will receive friends Monday, May 14, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson in Kingsport, TN. Funeral services will be Tuesday May 15, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Kingsley United Methodist Church with Rev. Raymond W. Amos, Sr. and Pastor Joe Barber officiating.
Interment will follow in the Gunnings Cemetery in Blountville, TN.
