Sam Hussein Assid passed away on May 13th, 2017. In 1924, Hussein Abbas Assid Aboul Hosn (Sam) was born in a small mountainous town in Lebanon. In 1949 he immigrated with his wife and small son to Kingsport, Tennessee joining the rest of his wife's family and other Lebanese immigrants who had chosen east Tennessee as their new home.
After brief employment with Roberts & Johnson Lumber Company and Citizens Supply, Sam started his own small business behind Royal Laundry on Sullivan Street. He and his wife built their reputable custom cabinet and furniture shop and continued to serve the area for the next 50 years. Many businesses and homes are proud owners of his masterful workmanship.
In his 50's, Sam became an avid golfer bringing friendship, chuckles, and Arabic delicacies to his new friends and the employees at Warriors State Park and The Crossings golf courses. He was proud of his craft and reputation in Kingsport, but equally as proud of his Lebanese heritage. Sam made several trips back to Lebanon with his family. Upon returning from his final trip to Lebanon, Sam was baptized at First Baptist Church of Kingsport at the age of 83 claiming Christianity as his faith. In Sam's own words he became "A Jesus man". His Druze heritage and upbringing remained a key part of his belief and approach to life.
Sam Hussein Assid was preceded in death by his parents, six of his eight siblings in Lebanon, and his wife, Faheama Mire Assid, who gave him a wonderful home and family.
He is survived by his sister, Camillia, in Lebanon; brother, Ali in Brazil; daughter and son-in law, Susie and Sam Jones; sons, Romzie Assid and Raymond Assid; grandchildren, Frannie and wife Jenn, Andrew and wife Danielle, Rachel, Aaron, Rebekah, and Alexander. Sam also leaves behind his beloved Mire families and extended Aboul-Hosn family.
