Samuel Edward Berry, 90, of Blountville, passed away Sunday, July 11, 2010, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County. He was a farmer, and had driven a bus for Sullivan County Schools for over 30 years. Sam was a member of Wheeler United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Barnes Berry, in 1986; his parents, Murry and Addie Berry; his brother, Bill Berry; his sisters, Stacy Wolfe, Una Poe, Sue Lacy, and Georgia Denton; and his nephew, Richard Poe.
Sam is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Wade Dykes, and Mitzi and Tom Odom; his grandchildren, Erik and Travis Dykes, and Thomas and Sara Odom; his nieces, Virginia Wolfe, Margaret Helvey, Linda Ramsey, and Ann Lacy Rose; his nephews, Don Poe and Jim Denton; and his wonderful companion of 18 years, Pauline Chase and her loving family.
The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Wheeler United Methodist Church. Services will follow at 2:00, with the Rev. Stuart Albee officiating. Burial will follow at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Erik Dykes, Travis Dykes, Thomas Odom, David Poe, Mike Poe, Jeff Poe, and Jim Denton. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Poe, Jim Roller, Gary Chase, Tommy Copas, Carroll Cross, Allen Cross, Denny Ford, Gary Olinger, Ernie Millsap, Wendell Millsap, John Wood, and Edward Wood.
The family wishes to express gratitude To Dr. Radu Boiciuc and the nurses and staff of W-3 at Wellmont Holston Valley for their compassionate care for Daddy.
