Samuel L. Gray

Samuel L. Gray, 88, of the Fordtown Community, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at Life Care Center of Gray. A native of Kingsport, he had worked as a builder and was a member of Fordtown Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Jennie Gray; wife, Helen Gray; two sisters, Mildred Stafford and Frances Miller; and two brothers, Robert Gray and Dean Gray.

Samuel is survived by daughter, Joyce Sams and husband, Charles of Kingsport; three sons, Don Gray and wife, Patsy of Kingsport, Gerald Gray and wife, Ina of Gray, and Jeff Gray and wife, Jane of Hendersonville, TN; four grandchildren, Michelle Sams, David Gray, Susan Sams and Leslie Gray Carberry; four great-grandchildren, Tyler Gray, Chelsey Howard, Logan Montgomery, and Jordan Montgomery; great-great-granddaughter, Jaidyn Howard; two sisters, Vendetta Gilley and husband, Everett of Chattanooga, TN; and Shirley Shipley and husband, Joe of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow with Pastor Bryan Moore officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday at 11:00 am at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 am for the graveside service.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, David Gray, Tyler Gray, Logan and Jordan Montgomery, Chad Carberry and Jared Howard.
