Kingsport - Samuel Frank Hurd, 79, died early Friday morning January 30, 2009 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Frank was born in Scott County, Virginia and lived almost all of his life in Kingsport. He was the son of Lucian and Irene Hurd both deceased.
He was employed for 43 years by Kingsport Press, later Arcata Graphics. He was a member of St. Dominic Church.
Frank was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He will be greatly missed by his family.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; three sons, Rev. Steven Hurd, S. J., Phil Hurd and his wife Colleen, and Tim Hurd and Shannon; one daughter, Susan Susie Hurd Negrotto and her husband Scott; six grandchildren, Sara Negrotto, Shelly Negrotto, John Hurd, Alex Hurd, Hannah Hurd and Will Hurd; one brother, Wayne Hurd and his wife Jo; one sister, Faye Hurd Nelson; one niece, Angela Hurd Spratlin and her husband Steve; and one nephew, Greg Hurd and his wife Tina.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
A second visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM on Monday at St. Dominic Church, 2517 John B. Dennis Highway, Kingsport. The funeral will follow at 11 AM; officiants will be Rev. Steven Hurd, S.J., and Rev. Charles Burton. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.
