Samuel Harold Wagner, Sr., 72, Gray, went to be with the Lord Saturday April 7, 2007 at James H. Quillen Medical Center.
Born in Sullivan County, he had resided most of his life in Gray. He attended Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church in Gray. Mr. Wagner was a veteran of the United States Air Force and United States Navy, having served in the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sadie Wagner; parents, Edward Wagner and Thelma Sells; step-father, Jesse Sells; and brother, Bobby Wagner.
Surviving are his wife, Elsie Wagner, Gray, TN; three daughters, Carol Rerisi and husband, Duke, Grayson, GA, Sandra Miller and husband, Johnnie, Gray, TN, and Sharon Prince and husband, Tony, Clayton, NC; two sons, Harold Wagner, Jr. and wife, Donna, Willow Springs, NC, and Steve Wagner and wife, Teresa, Raleigh, NC; two step-daughters, Janet Bullis and husband, Don, Kingsport, and Rosa Gregory and husband, Pat, Fuquay Varina, NC; 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Jean Hickey and husband, Claude, MO, and Margaret Phillips, AZ; two brothers, James Wagner and wife, June, FL, Richard Wagner and wife, Ruby, Gray, TN; one step-sister, Wanda Dean, Jonesborough; one step-brother, Ralph Sells, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Services will be at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Gene Lasley officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the VFW. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:45 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Rusty Wagner, John Miller, Jason Boyd, Blake Bullis, Robert Dingus, Robbie Wagner, and Vaughn McConnell.
