Samuel J. Weatherly, Jr entered eternal rest Friday, September 18, 2015. Sam was born on September 2, 1925 in Bristol, Virginia. He was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School. Sam was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Johnson City, Tennessee. He also served in the U.S. Navy. Sam was an employee of Kingsport Press for more than 20 years, and then retiring from All Phase Elec. in Kingsport, Tennessee. He was an avid gardener and was very proud of his pristine garden and all of the wonderful veggies that he loved sharing with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam J. Weatherly, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Weatherly; six sisters; and one brother.
Sam is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joan Cowden Weatherly of the home; son, Sam C. Weatherly and wife, Sandra of Kingsport; and many sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12-1:00 pm on Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport with the funeral service to follow at 1:00 pm.
The graveside servcie will be conducted at East Lawn Memorial Park following the funeral service, with Military Honors conducted by American Legion Posts 3/265.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
