Sandra Jean Marsh Mayo

Sandra Jean Marsh Mayo, 71, of Kingsport unexpectedly went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, at the Emergency Room of Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital. She was born on July 31, 1944, to her proud parents, John and Emogene Marsh, and was raised in Ross Camp Ground Community of Hawkins County. She graduated from Church Hill High School and spent her adult life in Kingsport. Sandra was a long time member of Ross Camp Ground UMC and was a faithful participant in the local evening Bible Study Fellowship group. Her faith in God was strong when others doubted.

She worked for several years at First National Bank and retired from Eastman Chemical Company. She was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was a devoted and loving wife, sister, aunt and friend to all. Family was always important to Sandra. She and John enjoyed beach vacations and turned many of these opportunities into family vacations with her parents and siblings. Sandra never met a stranger. You could talk with her a few minutes and feel like you had known her for years.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, John Mayo; three sisters, Brenda (Jerry) Jessee of Weber City, Karen (Jerry) Salyer, and Judy Kiser of Kingsport; and her brother, John Randall Marsh of Church Hill; five nieces and nephews, Greg (Melissa) Jessee, Halley Harper, Aimee (Eric) Morelock, John Kiser, and Megan (Peden) Templeton; two great-nieces, Kyra and Chloe; two great-nephews, Ryan and Trey; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and more friends than we could ever name.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Downtown. The funeral service will follow in the chapel with Revs. Karl Berndt, and Lynn Sorrell officiating. Special music will be provided by Holly Berndt.

A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Ross Camp Ground Cemetery. Those attending committal services are asked to meet at Hamlett-Dobson at 10:15 a.m. and proceed to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be brothers-in-law, nephews, and friends. Honorary Pallbearers will be Fred Sturgill, Richard "Dick" Houser, Wayne Carter, and Johnny Hammonds.

Those wishing may make memorial donations to Ross Camp Ground UMC, c/o Janie Kincheloe, 107 Ivy Lane, Gray, TN 37615.
