Sandra Surcey Starnes

Sandra Surcey Starnes went to be with the Lord Sunday morning at Holston Valley Medical Center after a long illness. She was born January 25, 1954 to Frank and Betty Coates Surcey. Sandra was a long-time member of State Line Baptist Church. She loved serving in AWANA, the Deaf Ministry, the Choir and Vacation Bible School for many years prior to her declining health. Sandra was a devoted Jeff Gordon fan.

In addition to her parents, Sandra was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Malcolm and Irene Coates; paternal grandparents, John and Margaret Surcey; brother, Dwight Surcey; special aunt, Darlene Coates; aunts, Marie Coates and Jenny Surcey; and uncles, Glen Surcey and Howard Keith.

Sandra is survived by her devoted husband, Joe Starnes; step-son, Joe Starnes, Jr., and friend, Vickie; step-daughter, Mary Bowen and husband, Barry; step-grandchildren, Tiffany and Brandy Bowen; aunts, Carol Crawford and Ruby Keith; uncle, Bill Coates; cousins, Kathy Morgan, Gary Surcey, Mike Keith, Tammy Phillips, Robin Conn, Tim Crawford, Steven Coates, Teresa Patterson and Sonja Dingus; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; and her beloved cat, Garfield.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 30th from 5-7:00 pm at State Line Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Garry Eads officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, October 31st, at 11:00 am at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Gary Surcey, Barry Bowen, Joe Starnes, Jr., Tim Crawford, Joel Phillips and Steven Coates.

Flowers are acceptable but preferably memorial contributions may be made to the family to defray funeral expenses.
