Sarah Ellen Huffaker Simpson, 89, of Kingsport, passed away Tuesday (Dec 10, 2013) at home. Sarah was born and raised in Kingsport. She graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School, the University of Tennessee and completed post-graduate work at East Tennessee State University where she received her certification to teach Spanish and English.
She served her community in many ways including Girl Scout organizer and troop leader, elementary school mentor, Bible Study Fellowship discussion leader and member and former president of the Delphian Club. As a life long member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church, Sarah was active in the United Methodist Women serving as a circle leader and president of UMW.
Sarah was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years, Marvin C. Simpson, Jr.
She is survived by three children and their spouses - Emily Simpson Dageforde and husband David of Louisville, KY, Jeffrey Simpson and wife Maureen of Herndon, VA and Julia Simpson Davis and husband Carl of Hampton, VA - and six grandchildren - Leigh Anne and Sean Dageforde, Ashley and Samantha Simpson and Sydney Davis.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Care Central for the love, care and devotion they have shown to Sarah.
An inurnment service will be held at Oak Hill Memorial Park on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Mickey Rainwater officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 505 Dale Street, Kingsport 37660. Arrangements are being handled by Hamlet-Dobson Funeral Home.
