S.C. Harrell Jr.

April 22, 1934 — April 3, 2019

S.C. Harrell Jr.

S.C. Harrell Jr. left his earthly home and entered his Heavenly home on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. His loved ones were by his side.

Mr. Harrell was born April 22, 1934 in Hawkins County to S.C. Harrell Sr. and Agnes Carpenter Harrell.  He graduated from Sullivan High School in 1954.  In 1956 he answered the call from Uncle Sam, spending the majority of his service time in Fort Polk, LA. After returning, he was employed at Tennessee Eastman Division of Eastman Kodak Company for 33 years, retiring in 1987.

S.C. was always willing and ready to assist anyone needing help. He spent many hours of retirement on the hillside using his weed eater until the dreaded diseased robbed him of his memory. He was a faithful member of Oakdale Baptist Church, where he served as trustee.

Preceding him in death, other than his parents, were brothers, Jasper Harrell in 1963 and Benny T. Harrell in 1996, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Basil and Lelia Milligan.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Cathyrne M. Harrell; precious daughter, Tracie Yates and husband, Todd; granddaughter, Rachel Yates, whom he loved with all his heart and was the apple of his eye; sister, Wanda Light of Rock Hill, SC; and nieces and nephews. A special little girl named Raylin always brought a smile to his face when she entered the room no matter how sick he was.

The family will receive friends Saturday, April 6 from 4-7:00 pm at the Fall Branch location of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home.  Funeral services will follow at 7:00 in the chapel with Pastor John McPheron officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday at Oakdale Baptist Church Cemetery.  Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Oakdale Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oakdale Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in care of Linda Hawk, 270 Barkley Road, Afton, TN 37616.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to Amedisys Hospice of Greeneville for their care and kindness during the past month.
