Calvin Sevier Gray, 86, Rock Springs Community, passed away at 8:40 am, Thursday, September 4, 2014, at his home following and extended illness. Sevier was born in Hawkins County and had lived in the Kingsport area since his childhood. He was a graduate of Sullivan High School, class of '47. Sevier was employed by Meade Corporation until his retirement in 1994 after 43 years of service. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Rock Springs United Methodist Church. Sevier was an avid UT and Atlanta Braves fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, E.P. and Sallie Gray, and 4 sisters.
Sevier is survived by his wife, Mrs. June Crumley Gray of the home; daughter, Deborah Gray of Kingsport; son, Jeffrey Gray of Kingsport; sister, Doris Hicks of Kingsport; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Helen Crumley; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express special appreciation to Bennie and Carole Carroll, Carolyn Light, Dr. Diana Nunley, and Smokey Mountain Hospice.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1-3:00 pm at Rock Springs United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm with Rev. Buddy Butler and Rev. Regina Shelton officiating.
Burial will follow the funeral service in Rock Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bo Compton, Mark Compton, Aaron, Carroll, Jerry Higgins, Mike Hicks and Gary Hicks. Honorary pallbearers will be the Adult Bible Class.
