Shafica Cablon Kassem, 90, of Appalachian Christian Village, Johnson City, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2011. Born in Btecknay, Lebanon, she came to the United States in 1947 to join her father in Kingsport. She married Ronnie F. Kassem in 1952 and moved to Johnson City, where she lived for the rest of her life. Shafica was first a dressmaker and then retired as a cosmetologist. She was a member of the Cosmetologist Association and a member of First Christian Church of Johnson City.
Shafica was preceded in death by her parents, Aeshad Cablon Aboulhosn and Aaliyah Shaheen Aboulhosn and sister Hada Aboulhosn.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Kassem, of Johnson City, TN; son, Dr. Omar Kassem, of Princeton, W.VA; and one granddaughter, Janine Lena Kassem Aboulhosn.
The family will receive friends Friday, September 23, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Steven Harmon officiating. Graveside services will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
