Shannon "Sarge" M. Lunsford Sr

Shannon "Sarge" M. Lunsford, Sr., 69, of Kingsport, has finally gone home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 23, 2013. He was born in Kingsport and resided in Fremont, Ohio, for twenty years before returning to Kingsport.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving for three tours in the Vietnam War as a sergeant and retired after twenty years of service. Shannon retired from Heinz U.S.A. in Fremont, Ohio, after 18 ½ years of service. He was a member of Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 V.F.W.

Sarge was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ada Bell Lunsford; wife, Patricia Ann Lunsford; stepson, Michael Lunsford; daughter, Jacquelynn L. Chapman; brothers, Paul, James, Earl, Gene, Bill, and Sonny Lunsford.

He is survived by his wife, Violet V. Lunsford of Kingsport; son, Shannon Lunsford, Jr. of Kingsport; daughter, Laurie A. McEwen and husband, William of Kingsport; stepdaughter, Robin Brady of Richmond, VA; stepson, James Brady of Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Crystal L. Bates, Brittany Shasteen, Alisha McEwen-Slyker, and Mikayla Shasteen; great-grandchild, Malachi Bates; sisters, Violet Nuckles of Kingsport and Betty Snyder of Moorefield, WVA; brother, Edward Lee "Butch" Lunsford of Republic, OH; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center for the special care they provided during his illness.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport, with Rev. Samuel Surgener and Rev. John Walters officiating. The graveside service will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park. The V.F.W. will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Judes Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
