Shelby Jean New, 71, of Kingsport, died Tuesday morning, February 26, 2008, at her home after an extended illness.
She was born in Blackwater, Virginia, but had resided in Kingsport most of her life. Shelby was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Preceding her in death were her father T. R. Vicars; her mother, Callie Vicars; sister, Bertie Keeling; and brother, Olin Vicars.
Surviving are her soul mate, Larry Basham; a daughter, Patty New; a son, Ronald New and wife Kim; a granddaughter, Rhonda McKee and husband Kevin; a grandson, Bradley New and wife Patricia; a great-grandchild, Josey Smith; three brothers, J. R. Vicars, Joel Vicars, Oscar Vicars; two sisters, Hassie Morgan and Onita Gray; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Johnny Gibson officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Mountain Home National Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin McKee, Roger Gray, Gary Gray, Bobby Gray, Tim Vicars, David Vicars, Danny Vicars, Mike Vicars, Norman Vicars, Gene Vicars, and Kenneth Vicars.
