Shirley Galloway, 72, Rock Springs Community of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Tuesday morning, September 9, 2008, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following an extended illness.
She was born in Sullivan County and had resided in the Rock Springs Community most of her life. Shirley was a member of the Rock Springs United Methodist Church.
Her parents, George and Mary Kate Hite; her husband, Bert Galloway; and a sister, Patsy Lawson, preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Kay Steffey and Penny Mitchell, both of Kingsport; four grandchildren, Toby Steffey and wife Crystal, Tracie Morelock and husband Michael, Brooke Maness and husband Shane, and B. J. Mitchell; five great-grandchildren, Libby, Bubba, Kaydee, Mason, and Triston; three sisters, Bevelene Ferguson of Kingsport, JoAnn Hite of Jonesborough, Connie Hensley of Greeneville, TN; and five brothers, Tom Hite of Church Hill, Glen Hite of Kingsport, Blue Hite of Kingsport, Jimmy Hite of Blountville, and Rob Hite of Jonesborough.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Joseph Manis officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Rock Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Toby, B. J., Michael, Shane, Todd, Jason, and Bubba. Honorary pallbearers will be Mason, Triston, Cody, Troy, Chris, Wayne, Terry, and Little Tom.
