Shirley Jean Bateman

Shirley Jean Bateman, 78, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord at noon on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, following an extended period of health problems. She was born in War, WV and had been a resident of Kingsport since 1973. Shirley was an employee of K-Mart where she had worked since 1973, retiring after 36 years of service.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Sam Bateman; 3 daughters, Lea Bateman, Lora Bateman and Launa Williams, all of Kingsport; 5 grandchildren, Tim Williams, Bruce Williams, Mandy Strong, Justin Hensley and Logan Giles; 4 great-grandchildren, Piper and Phoenix Strong, and Lennon Williams, and Aiden Hensley; 2 sisters, Rose (Tootsie) Burke of Cucumber, WV, and Beulah (Boots) Mitchell of Welch, WV; brother, Fred Wright and wife of McCall, SC; and a special niece, Rhonda Richardson.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12-1:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm with Tim Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Old Kingsport Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tim Williams, Bruce Williams, Chris Arndt, Lennon Williams, Bob Arndt, and Doug Hensley. Honorary pallbearers will be Logan Giles and Justin Hensley.
