Shirley Paulette Thorpe, 68, of Greeneville, died Thursday morning, November 1, 2012, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief battle with cancer. She was born in Sullivan County, where she had resided most of her life. Shirley had been employed with Brock Group for the last 14 years. She enjoyed farming and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lonnie Light and second husband, Vernon Thorpe; parents, Clyde and Odell Morelock; sisters, Marilyn Crawford, Darlene Light, and Nancy Sue Morelock; and one brother, Jerry Morelock.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Linda "Susie" Wells and husband, Phillip of Gray; three sons, Phillip Light and wife, Paula of Kingsport, Charlie Light and wife, Loretta of Kingsport, and Tommy Light and wife, Rebecca of Greeneville; two grandsons, Tommy "Jake" Light, and Alex Wells; one sister, Mareda Storie of Rogersville; several nieces and nephews; two aunts; and special friend, William "Buddy" Roberts.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 5th from 4-6:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 6:00 pm with Brother Roger Smith officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday, November 6th at 1:00 pm at Mowell Cemetery. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons.
