Simon Paul Dunn, 84, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 13, 2011, at his home with his loving family by his side after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born in Sullivan County and lived there all his life. He attended Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church when he was able. He retired from J. P. Stevens and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Paul enjoyed working on radios, TV's, spending time in his building and going to garage sales and flea markets as well as eating at the Jan Mar Restaurant. However, his most enjoyable moments were simply being a Grandad, Dad, and Pappaw. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary Lee Owens Dunn, his parents, Charlie and Anna Dunn, his infant son, Paul Everette Dunn, his daughter, Sherry Lynn Dunn Evans, and one granddaughter, Lori Ann Evans.
He was the last surviving sibling of nine children and was also preceded in death by four brothers Scott Dunn, J.W. Dunn, Clayton Dunn, Frank Dunn and four sisters, Lula Wexler, Stella Wexler, Nell Garber, and Faye Horne.
Surviving are one daughter, Judith "Judy" Anne Dunn Franklin and husband, Larry, three grandchildren, Holly Anne Ralph and husband Mark, Justin Wayne Franklin and wife Toby, Heather Evans Jennings and husband Wesley, his pride and joys being his six precious great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Nicole Mooney, Braden Matthew Ralph, Sophie LeeAnne Franklin, Collin Wayne Franklin, Isaac Lynn Jennings and Jacob Aaron Jennings; and dear special friends, Bill and Shirley Thorpe, Bob and Linda Russell, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport and any time at his home. Services to celebrate his life will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Todd Jennings, Rev. Tom Legg, and Rev. Mike Anglin officiating.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Tyler Russell, Bob Russell, Robbie Russell, Gerald Lane, Wesley Dunn, Shannon Dunn, and Logan Dunn serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Ralph, Wesley Jennings, Bill Thorpe, and the great-grandchildren.
The family of Paul Dunn wishes to convey a special heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Mountain States Home Health, Med Center Hospice, Dr. W. Michael Smith and staff for providing such special love and care for our sweet Dad, Papaw, and Grandad.
