Sophia Pauline ?Polly? O?Dell died at her home in Potomac, Maryland, on Wednesday, February 28, 2007, from complications due to renal failure.
Mrs. O?Dell was born in Scott County, VA on October 30, 1921, to Charles and Maxie Fleming Smith.
She worked in the clothing industry for over 25 years, notably at J. Fred Johnson Company and at Sobel?s in sales and as a buyer. She was active in the community as a Girl Scout leader for many years. As a member of the First Christian Church, she sang alto in the church Choir, participated on several committees, supported various programs and enjoyed teaching Sunday School. She was also a member of the Kingsport Chapter of the Eastern Star for many years.
Pauline was an avid bowler, belonging to the Kingsport Bowling League, and traveled to over 30 states participating in local, state and national bowling tournaments. Her hobbies included oil painting; and as an amateur artist, she produced many paintings as gifts for family and friends.
She and her husband have lived in Maryland, close to their daughters, since 1987.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, George Thomas O?Dell; two daughters, Martha Morrissey and husband Robert of Annapolis, MD, and Mary J. O?Dell of Potomac, MD. She is also survived by one brother, Holiday Smith of Kingsport, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes in Kingsport on Monday, March 5th from 5:00 ? 7:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 6th at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
