Stella Opal Roberts Cox, 86, of Kingsport, has gone to her heavenly home on Saturday, May 29, 2010.
Born in Blackwater, Virginia, Opal later moved to Kingsport and worked for J.P. Stevens Company and Tennessee Eastman Company. She was also a member of Reservoir Road Missionary Baptist Church. Opal was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister who loved to cook and spend time with her family.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Lewis and Dona Roberts; sisters, Bessie Wallen, Flora Collier, Florence Hurd, Buna Scott, Gladys Jones, Virgie Roberts, Pearl Manis; brothers, Shirley Roberts, Andy Roberts, and infant twins, Theodore and App Roberts.
Survivors include her loving husband of 63 years, Samuel Calvin Cox of Kingsport; devoted son, Darrell and wife Mitzi of Kingsport; two grandsons, Andy Cox and wife Stephanie and Brandon Cox both of Kingsport; brother, Hagan Paul Roberts, Kingsport; several nieces and nephews; loving caregiver, Sue Puckett.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Services will be held at 8:00p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jeff Strong officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00a.m. Wednesday at East Lawn Memorial Park. Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family would like to express special thanks to the Intensive Care Unit staff and Wellmont Hospice at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
