Susan Durnin Mitchell joined her mother, Peggy Durnin, and brother, James Kipling Durnin, in heaven on Sunday, April 15, 2012.
She was born May 5, 1955 to C. James and Peggy Durnin in Irwin, Pennsylvania. In 1961, the family moved to Kingsport where she lived the rest of her life. She was a graduate of Sullivan Central High School and worked at Eastman for the past twenty-three years.
She was a member of Christ Fellowship Church. Susan was a blessing to all those who knew her. She constantly found ways to make others feel special, through thoughtful gifts and kind words. She was passionate about her children and grandchildren, and they, along with her husband and large, close-knit family, were her life. Through her illness, she taught her family and friends how to face adversity with faith, determination and acceptance.
Susan is survived by devoted family; husband, Don; children, Megan Fleenor Bishop Bill of Moultrie, GA, Dustin Fleenor, Jessica Fleenor Hill Shawn, Haylie Fleenor Weatherford Andrew; grandchildren, Maggie Bishop, Will Bishop, Kylar Williams, Corey Hill, Mason Hill, Beckham Weatherford, Kallie Weatherford, Abbey Mitchell; step-son, Chad Mitchell of Charlotte, NC; father, C. James Durnin; sisters, Cindy Pangle Lew of Maryville, TN, Jamie Slagle, Kerry Keith and Kitty Douthat Joe; brothers, Pat Durnin Karen, Joe Durnin Debra, of Knoxville, TN and Mark Durnin Sharon; seventeen nieces and nephews and ten great-nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held at Christ Fellowship Church at 260 Victory Lane, Kingsport, on Tuesday, April 17 at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Greg DePriest officiating. Fellowship with family and friends will follow.
