Susanne "Penny" Simonds

Susanne "Penny" Simonds, 72, of Kingsport, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at her home following a lengthy illness. She was born in Kingsport and a resident most of her life. Penny was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and ETSU. She had retired from Gibsons Oxygen Service and was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church.

Penny was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Simonds; parents, Doyle and Wilma Stevens; and sister, Ella Jo Shell.

She is survived by daughter, Amy Gillenwater and husband, Rick of Kingsport; son, Scott Simonds and wife, Kim of Blountville; four grandchildren, Tyler, Abby and Maggie Gillenwater and Connor Blanton; brother, Tom Stevens and wife, Virginia of Franklin, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would to like to extend a special thanks to Smoky Mountain Hospice and to a special family friend and caregiver, Lori Light.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Jack P. Weikel officiating.

A graveside service will be held on Friday at 11:00 am at Holston View Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
