Susie Bea Bowen

Susie Bea Bowen, 88, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 3, 2013. She was born August 4, 1924, in Duffield, VA and was a life-long area resident.

Bea retired from Eastman Kodak in 1986 after 42 years of service.

Bea was a very giving person with a big heart. She was known for her love of gardening and working in her yard. She was especially known for her green beans and tomatoes.

She was a long time member of Glenwood Baptist Church, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #198 and an avid supporter of American veterans.

Bea was preceded in death by her parents, Reece and Lakie (Fraley) Bowen, one sister, and fourteen brothers.

She is survived by her life-time friend, Laura Roache of Kingsport; two brothers, Bill Bowen of Kingsport; Jack "Pete" Bowen of Duffield, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 6, 2013, from 5 to 7:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, with Rev. Mike Pelham and Rev. Richard Harris officiating.

Graveside service will be on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA.

Pallbearers will be Roger Roache, Joe Harrel, Elmer Roache, and Edgar Roache.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Amedisys Hospice caregivers, Dr. David Frances and staff for the special care they gave to Bea.
