Sylvia Bement

Sylvia Lynn Bement went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 3, 2024. Born on October 17, 1948 in New Haven, CT to Harvey E. Jewell and Norma Jean Query Jewell. Sylvia was the oldest of 4 children, and will be missed by her siblings, Stewart, H. Aaron, and Marcy. 

She is survived by her loving and caring husband of 55 years, Gary R. Bement; son, Bret Bement and wife, Traci Bement, and son, Jared Bement and wife, Mary Beth Bement. Sylvia will be remembered by her grandchildren Codi, Isaias, Braylin, Gideon, Kinsley, and Tobiah Bement. 

As a nurse, she tended to the needs of others and as a wife of a military chaplain and pastor, she cared for those in her community. Whether she was heading to church or a garage sale, preparing for the next holiday, or having late night popcorn while watching a good show, she enjoyed the little gifts of life with family. She will be held in our hearts forever. May she rest in the arms of the Lord.

A Celebration of Life service open to family and friends will be held on December 28, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home in Kingsport, TN.

A private internment service will be held at Mountain Home National Cemetery.
