Sylvia Jacqueline Parker, 67, Kingsport, died Saturday evening June 16, 2007 after a brief illness.
Born in Mt. Airy, NC, she was a graduate and salutatorian of Flat Rock High School.
Ms. Parker was a longtime member and employee of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church, currently having served as Director of Nurture. Her passions were family, children and grandchildren, her church, including mission, youth, and senior adult ministries, NASCAR, various community activities, and her yearly retreat to North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Parker; parents, Gurney and Stella Johnson; sisters, Elizabeth Johnson and Judy Johnson Nester.
Surviving are her children, Bill Sheila, Bob Sherri, Susan Greg, and Ben Parker; seven grandchildren, John, Cory, Katie, Rachel and Brett Parker, Scott and Parker Burks; brothers, G.W. Johnson, Jr. Connie and Joe Johnson Bell; one aunt, Bertie McKay; one uncle, Bill Bennett Jackie; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Colonial Heights United Methodist Church. Services are immediately following.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m.
Pallbearers will be John Parker, Dale Reece, Wayne Watson, Terry Vaughn, Phil Rickman, Bill Gill, Doug Murray, and David Street. Honorary pallbearers will be Don and Patty Dronfield, Bruce and Carol Anderson, Vicki Jacobs, Sylvia Williams, Judy Reece, Pat Rickman, Barbara Watson, Kris Vaughn, Linda Gill, Karey Murray, Ann Seegar, Joann Wood, Joe and Carolyn Bender, Bud and Ruth Fox, Linnea Russum, Wendy Chambly, Phil and Susan Smith, Ruth Street, Jane Miller, Kathy Livasy, Brenda and Larry Ball, Larry and Sue Belcher, and Upper Crust and Young Adult Ministries.
