Talmadge Scalf

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. John 14:3

Talmadge, 94, entered into the Kingdom of Heaven singing with the Angels How Beautiful Heaven Must be on April 8, 2025, with family and friends by his side. He was born on October 22, 1930, to the late Charlie and Sallie Scalf. Talmadge was stationed in Germany during the Korean War where he served in the Army. He later retired from Eastman Kodak with 35 years of service.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter and always looked forward to those trips with his son Junior and buddies. He had a special talent and a love for music where he enjoyed singing with his siblings and various quartets and playing the piano. He lived by the phrase “work hard and be humble.”

Dad (Papaw), you are going to be missed dearly by all, especially your riding and eating out buddy Lindsey, who loved you dearly.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Imogene (Jean) Scalf; son, Steven; brothers, Ellis, Ezra, and Floyd; and sisters, Marylou, Phyllis, and Dorothy.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Talmadge Junior and wife LouAnn; and daughter, Tammy Gilbert and Dickie; adopted daughter, Barbara Hutson and husband Paul; his precious granddaughter, Lindsey Scalf; grandsons, Travis and Cheryl, and Terrance and wife Rachel; great grandchildren, Aaron, Vanessa, Kristina, Anthony, and Kaitlyn; along with 6 great great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a very special sister, Margie Carter and Margie’s daughter, Juanita, who was beside him during his transition into heaven.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. with Pastor Wayne Morelock officiating.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2025, at East Lawn Memorial Park with Military Rites by The American Legion Posts 3/265. Following will be the release of doves by his granddaughter Lindsey, in her Papaw's honor.

A special thank you to Preston Place and the hospice unit at Mountain Home VA for the amazing care; an extra special thank you to Lisa Stasz for the care and love you showed Dad, he absolutely loved and adored you; to Mike Christie and Annette Smith for your love and care during Dads final days; and to his grandson, Travis, for his love and care.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Saint Jude Children’s Hospital in Talmadge's memory.
