Teddy Ray Hughes

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.   Psalm 23

Ted R. Hughes, age 89 of Kingsport, TN passed away peacefully on August 1, 2024. Ted was born in Fremont, VA to the late George and Alkie Hughes on January 8, 1935.

Ted started working at an early age as a florist for White Floral Company. He then worked at Tennessee Eastman Company in the Tenite Division for 33 years. Also during this time, he worked part time as a truck driver for Mason-Dixon Lines and was a tour guide for Ivory Tours escorting groups to the Holy Lands and Hawaii.

Ted was a dedicated Christian and was a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church. He sang in the Heaven Bound Choir. He especially enjoyed the fellowship of his Men’s Sunday School Class.

He was a 50-year member of the Johnson Masonic Lodge and the Jericho Shriners where he volunteered 571 trips transporting children to various Shriners Hospitals on the East Coast. This gave him such joy and honor. Serving others gave him his greatest happiness as he had compassion and a caring heart.
