Teresa "Gail" Honaker, 70, of Church Hill, left this world for her heavenly home on Sunday, May 22, 2022. Gail was born in Kingsport to Sullins and Jean Harris. She worked at Carter's Valley Elementary School for 35 years. She was so proud of her students and looked forward to going to CVES each day. Gail enjoyed flower gardening, watching birds, and finding the perfect books, art supplies, and "creepie crawlies" for her grandchildren. A voracious reader, she could often be found with a cup of coffee in one hand and a book in the other. Gail and her beloved husband, Larry, only dated for two weeks before becoming engaged; July 13 would have been their 48th wedding anniversary. Over the years they were inseparable and spent many happy hours volunteering for the Volunteer High School Band Boosters and Fun Fest concessions, and also served as election workers. More than anything, Gail loved her home, her cats, and her family.
She was preceded in death by her dad, Sullins Harris.
Gail is survived by her husband, Larry Honaker; daughters, Sarah (J. D.) Flack and Amanda (John) Dashler; grandchildren, Noah, Micah, and Asher Flack, and Alex and Warren Dashler; mother Jean Harris Devereux; sisters Sue Ann (Jack) Greene; Kris Keathley; and brother, Richard (Kathy) Harris. She was blessed with special sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends who meant so much to her.
She was thankful for all her caregivers at Smoky Mountain Hospice, especially Carey and Kelly, as well as Carrie who kept her hair looking beautiful. A special thank you to Dora who became an honorary sister and friend during her months in hospice.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at First Broad Street United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 6 p. m. with Pastor Sarah Flack officiating.
Family graveside services will be conducted at 10 a. m. on Friday, May 27, 2022, at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
