Thelma Paulette Ferguson, age 65, of Kingsport, TN passed away on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 as a result of a long fought battle with chronic COPD and lung disease. She was born to the late George Charlton and the late Sara Hamilton Charlton on March 4, 1947. Thelma grew up in the small Fordtown Community and was a lifetime resident of the Kingsport area. She attended and graduated from Holston High School in Blountville, TN. Thelma was an active and devoted member of the Bloomingdale Church of Jesus Christ.
She was also a loving Mother, a doting Grandmother and kind and loyal friend to all who knew her. Family and friends were Thelma's passion and delight. She enjoyed nothing more than spending every possible moment with those closest to her heart... her 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. They truly were the "light of her life." She also loved to travel and spent much of her time shopping, sightseeing and dining with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her older brother, George Myrle Charlton, formerly of the Jeroldstown area of Greene County and Nashville, TN.
Thelma is survived by her 2 sons, John Rogers of Kingsport and Scott Rogers and wife, Terri of Church Hill; brother, Neville Charlton and wife, Kathy of Kingsport; half-sister, Stacy Charlton of Knoxville, TN; 4 grandchildren, Sarah Owens of Church Hill, Brannan Vanover and husband, Cody USMC of Elizabethton, TN, Ben Rogers USMC of Church Hill, and Alex Rogers of Kingsport; 2 great-grandchildren, Peyton and Wyatt Vanover of Elizabethton, TN; and several other loving relatives and friends that are too numerous to be listed.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 28th, from 1-3:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport or anytime at the home of her son, Scott Rogers, 120 Riverchase Dr., Church Hill. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 pm with the Pastor Mildred Osborne Officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at Fordtown Baptist Church Cemetery.
Her sons and grandsons will be pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be John Marcellus Ferguson and John Rogers, Sr.
