Thelma Lois Whetsel

Thelma Lois Whetsel, 79, of Kingsport, died peacefully Friday, November 24, 2017, at her home, surrounded by her family that she loved very much. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who she adored.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar K. Whetsel; father and mother, David (Tobe) and Bonnie Crawford; sisters, Edna Light, Mae Morelock, Faye Lamb, Linda McAmis; and brother, Ross Crawford.

Thelma is survived by her two daughters, Gladys Williams and husband Richard of Black Mountain, NC, and Terry Horton and husband Rick of Mt. Carmel; one son, Sammy (Sam) Whetsel and wife Carolyn of Kingsport; three grandchildren, Christie Williams Merzlak, Keela Whetsel, and Landon Horton; two great-grandchildren, Fox Merzlak and Margot Merzlak; seven sisters, Lori Morelock, Hazel (Toots) Bragg, Ruth Wallen, Darlene Morelock, Opal Taylor, Kathy Dolen, and Sue Dolen; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, November 27, 2017, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch. The funeral service will follow at 8 p.m.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at East Lawn Memorial Park.
