Thelma ?Mammie? Shanks, 90, of Limestone passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, March 3, 2007.
She owned and operated Shanks Grocery for 40 years and resided in the Cherry Hill community most of her life.
Thelma was a loving caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy C. Shanks; her daughter, Ella Baines; four brothers; and two sisters.
She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Hayes of Fall Branch; two granddaughters, Nancy Hayes Sweet of Johnson City and Gail Williams of Church Hill; two grandsons, Ronald Baines of Jonesborough and Luther Hayes of Fall Branch; six great grandchildren, Brian, Travis, April, Kimberly, Candice, and Leah; seven great-great grandchildren; three sisters; Cleo Vines of Clarks Creek, Ruby Masters of Jonesborough, and Kathleen Franklin of Limestone; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Fall Branch or any time at the home of her daughter, Elizabeth Hayes.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday at the Fall Branch Chapel with Rev. Clarence Bear and Rev. David Shanks officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Milburnton United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be J. D. Hicks, Jerry Dickerson, Sammy Jones, Charles Estep, Brian Martin, Travis Martin, Ronnie Baines, and Renda Williams.
