Thomas Luther "Bud" Barnett, Sr., age 85, of Kingsport, departed this life on Friday, March 2, 2018, peacefully, at home with his family. After serving 2 years during the Korean War and 3 years in the National Guard, he retired as a Sgt. Major in the army reserve after serving 28 years. He retired from Eastman Kodak after 28 years. He was a member of Calvary Church of Boones Creek. Bud had a servant's heart, always helping others and was known and loved by many. His wife, Faye, was his partner and close friend for 65 years. He married the girl he loved, and enjoyed a long and happy life with her.
He loved attending Mule Days, Columbia, TN, flea markets, horse sales, and loved fresh water and deep sea fishing.
Bud was preceded in death by his father, Luther Barnett; mother, Etta Mae Fields Barnett; sisters, Pauline Hite, Josephine Gooden and Ella Mae Drinnon; son, Thomas Luther Barnett, Jr.; and great-grandson, Elijah Mullins.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Barnett; son, Terry Barnett and wife, Robin of Kingsport; daughter, DeAnna Sluss and husband, Donnie of Kingsport; sisters, Elizabeth Jo Jones of Kingsport, and Betty Ann Crafton of Melbourne, FL; grandchildren, Patricia Perkins and husband, Jeremy, Daniel Sluss and wife, Ashley, Kresant Flanary and husband, Aaron, Mark Cody, Kandis Barnett, Lindsay Barnett, and Courtney Taylor and husband, Michael; 13 wonderful great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 pm on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Bill Cody officiating.
The graveside service will be held on Monday at 1:00 pm at East Lawn Memorial Park. Military Rites will be conducted by American Legion Posts 3/265.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Sluss, Jeremy Perkins, Benjamin Perkins, Aaron Flanary, Jack Flanary, Michael Taylor, Brody Taylor, Kevin Lane and Randy Holland.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Wellmont Hospice, Kingsport 280 Steeles Rd, Bristol, TN 37620.
