Thomas Burlen (Tom) Payne

Thomas Burlen (Tom) Payne, age 83, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at his home following a period of declining health.

Born in Elizabethton, Tennessee on January 6, 1939, the son of the late Thomas and Blanche Payne, he resided in this area his entire life. He graduated from Elizabethton High School and married Emily Carden in 1959 in Elizabethton. He retired from Eastman Kodak in 1994 following 27 years of service.

Tom attended Orebank Missionary Baptist Church in Kingsport. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, dad, papaw, brother and friend who loved fishing, model trains and working on his boat.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Emily Payne; his children, twin siblings Joan Newsome of Woodruff, SC and John Payne (Betty) of Kingsport, Katrina Looney of Kingsport and Jim Payne of Kingsport; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Pastor David Smith will officiate a private graveside service for the family.
