Thomas ?Tom? Jackson Whetsel, 50, Kingsport, died Tuesday morning, December 12, 2006at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation-Hillside.
He was the adopted son of the late Ralph Whetsel and Nell Whetsel. Tom was a graduate of Sullivan West High School and a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. He worked at Eastman Chemical Company for 17 years in the Maintenance Department.
Tom enjoyed working with his cattle, working on cars, and helping his friends and neighbors. He also liked to play his guitar, even though he wasn?t that good.
In addition to his mother, Nell H. Whetsel of Kingsport, he is survived by three daughters, Tara Whetsel, Ashley Whetsel, both of Charleston, SC, and Katie Whetsel Rial and husband, Jeffrey of Kingsport; one son, Sam Whetsel, of Charleston, SC; grandchild, Talon Rial; three sisters, Sandy Jennings and husband, Terry of Bristol, TN, Linda Dietrich of Colorado, Maxine Devaul of Virginia; one brother, Barry Jennings, Abingdon, VA; several nieces and nephews; and the mother of his children, Dawn Whetsel.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport or any time at 334 Rock Springs Road.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Musick and Dr. J. B. Shelton officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at East Lawn Memorial Park. Cousins and friends will serve as pallbearers.
