Thomas "Gene" Yearwood

Psalm 121:1-2: "I lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord the maker of heaven and earth."

Thomas "Gene" Yearwood, 74, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Wexford House. Born in Tacoa, Georgia, he was the son of the late Thomas Glenn and Orene Moore Yearwood. He graduated from Hampton High School, Hargrave Military Academy, and Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School where he coached football. Gene worked for a Newport News Ship Building Company for many years before retiring from Northrops Grumman Shipbuilding as a machine shop supervisor. Some of Gene's favorite hobbies included softball, body building, and walking. He was a charter member of Pactolus United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Lori Toth, and life-time friend, Jamie Wilson.

Gene is survived by his loving wife, Laura "Sugar" Yearwood; son, T.G. Yearwood; daughters, Kimberly Yearwood, Susan Renee Salas and husband, Jason, Sherry McKenzie and husband, Robert, and Terry Carpenter and husband, Larry; grandchildren, Isabella Salas, Alexandra Salas, Sebastian, Lauren Lyons and friend Vic Brooks; great-granddaughter, Maddie Toth; brother, Perry Michael Yearwood and wife, Sally; and all of his special and loving church friends at Pactolus United Methodist Church.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pastor Steve Pederson for all the love and care he has shown to his dear friend Gene, Tom Hill, for his music that Gene loved, and the staff of Wellmont Hospice and The Wexford House.

The family will receive friends, 2-4 pm, Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Pactolus United Methodist Church. A celebration of life will immediately follow at 4 pm with Pastor Steve Pederson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pactolus United Methodist Church, 170 Pactolus Rd, Kingsport, TN 37663.
