Tim Baylor

Tim Baylor, 69, of Kingsport, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at Johnson City Medical Center from heart complications. Born in Washington, PA, he graduated from Francis C. Hammond High School in Alexandria, VA. Tim received his B.S. Degree in Psychology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1970 and in 1988 received his Masters in Healthcare Administration from the University of Houston/Clear Lake. He served as a captain in the U.S. Army with a tour in Vietnam. Tim was employed as hospital C.E.O. with HCA (Hospital Corporation of America) and Wellmont Health System. He was also Vice President of Marketing and Communications with Wellmont.

After retiring from a long and distinguished career in healthcare, he joined the faculty at ETSU as an instructor in what is now known as the College of Public Health. He was then promoted to Assistant Dean of Public Health Practice, coordinating student field internships. Tim was a facilitator in several regional initiatives to improve public health and worked on the First Global Health Leaders, a program of the Hope Through Healing Hands Foundation. He was very active in civic and community organizations and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Kingsport where he was currently serving as an Elder.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosemary Baylor and nephew, Timothy Baylor Raabe.

Tim is survived by his wife, Helen Baylor; daughter, Christina Hohmann and husband, Phillip of Houston, TX; two grandchildren, Sydney Grace Hohmann and Kason Andrew Hohmann; father, Warner L. Baylor and wife, Bernadette of Severna Park, MD; two sisters, Susan Sottile Baker of Hendersonville, TN, and Victoria Baylor Daly and husband, Patrick of Leesburg, VA; brother, Michael Sottile of Nicholson, GA; one niece and two nephews.

A memorial service will be held on 2:00 pm Sunday, November 24, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church in Kingsport with The Rev. Dr. David A. Cagle, Rev. Sharon H. Amstutz, and Dr. Randy Wykoff officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
