Tip E. Lyons, 83, Kingsport, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Indian Path Medical Center. He served in the U.S. Air Force in Japan and Germany, participating in the Berlin Airlift. Tip established residence in Washington County, TN early in 1950 and attended ETSU. He was employed by General Electric (jet propulsion), ERCO, and LINK Aviation, designing and fabricating flight simulators for commercial and military utilization.
Frequent travel was required and Mr. Lyons lived in Europe for 3 years, visiting several countries, including Russia in 1965. He later resided and worked in Brisbane, Australia, while working with the Australian Air Force on the F-111. Employment as an engineer in analog and digital computers was always a challenge and an achievement he enjoyed.
Tip enjoyed traveling and working in different countries and environments and always looked for the adventure of living in other cultures. He was always honored to represent the United States of America. GOD BLESS AMERICA.
Mr. Lyons is survived by two brothers, C.E. Lyons of Fort Worth, TX and Ted T. Lyons of Belton, MO, and one sister, Billie M. Lyons of Kingsport, TN and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted on Friday at 11:30 am at Mountain Home National Cemetery.
