Tom Paton
Tom Paton, 78, of Kingsport, died at Indian Path Medical Center on Sunday, March 23, 2014.
He was born in Erie, PA on November 1, 1935. We will remember Tom for being a person who always looked for the good in everyone and who had a positive outlook on life. When he married Gwen in 1983, he owned and operated the Buck Snort Saloon, in Pine, CO which became a popular tourist attraction under his ownership. In later years, he and Gwen owned two bed and breakfasts in MI and VA before retiring to TN in 2007. He was loved by many who looked to him as a role model.
Tom graduated from Academy High School in Erie, PA in 1953 and from Gannon University in 1960. His professional life was in sales with several companies including Rustoleum and Aeroquip Corporation. Tom was a member of First Broad Street UMC in Kingsport, TN.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Paton and Clara Pennock Paton.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Gwen; daughter; Heather, and son Thomas, of Overland Park, KS; step-daughters, Kim Hussey of Lakewood, CO, Jill Hegardt of Scottsdale, AZ, and Jayne Gladwell of Conifer, CO; grandsons, Austin and Spencer Carpenter of Overland Park, KS; step-grandchildren, Katie and Ashley Mueller, of Lakewood, CO, Annalise Kusy, of Scottsdale, AZ, Brett Gladwell (Fang) of Vienna, VA, Breanne Gladwell of Hongjau, China, Dana of Denver, CO, Patrick and Kristin Hussey of London, England, and Brandon and Matthew Hegardt, of Scottsdale, AZ; two great-grandchildren, Hayden and Meaghan Gladwell of Vienna, VA. Tom was an only child.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at the Chapel at First Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Jack P. Weikel and Rev. Mickey Rainwater officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Pine, CO at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made in Tom's memory to International Childcare Ministries to benefit Bristol Twihangane, 770 N. High School Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46214.
