Valerie "Reenie" Ketron Williams, 55, Kingsport, daughter of Karl and Valerie Ketron and wife of Greg Williams, passed away on Friday (July 18, 2014) at Holston Valley Medical Center surrounded by her family, after a noble fight with a brain tumor.
Reenie was born and raised in Kingsport. She graduated in 1978 from Dobyns-Bennett High School and then went on to attend Carson Newman College. She was an active member of her church, First Baptist of Kingsport, and spent several years teaching 3 year olds in Sunday School. Reenie's life was centered around caring for others, always concerned about what she could do for her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Karl S. Ketron in 2011; her brother, Karl "Chip" Ketron Jr. in 1978; and her grandparents, W.B. and Irene Edwards Greene.
Reenie is survived by her husband of 24 years, Greg Williams; her mother, Valerie Greene Ketron; her daughter, Katie Williams; her son, Will Barrett, and his wife, Jessica; her step-daughter, Amy Stanley and her husband Tommy; her granddaughter, Kara Barrett; her uncle, William B. Greene, Jr. and wife Linda; and cousin, Rebecca Greene.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 pm on Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home in Kingsport.
A memorial service will be held at 5:30 pm on Monday at First Baptist Church in Kingsport with Dr. Marvin Cameron and Dr. Ron Davis officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. A private burial for the family will be held at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
