Vanda Lakin Thayer

Vanda Lakin Thayer, Kingsport, passed away late evening Thursday, October 17, 2013, in Wexford House.

Vanda was born in the Fountain City section of Knoxville. She attended ETSU, receiving her degree in Elementary Education. Upon graduation, Vanda taught at Andrew Johnson Elementary School for 10 years. She later taught in the Sullivan County School System for 15 years retiring in 1994. She was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church.

Vanda was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert D. Lakin and Verna Smith Lakin.

She is survived by her husband, Roger E. Thayer of the home; daughter, Cinnamon Thayer, Kingsport, TN; son, Edmond Thayer, Knoxville, TN; sister, Patricia Lakin Watson and husband, Jack, Knoxville, TN; niece, Amanda Watson Duncan, Portland, OR; and nephew, Brad Watson, Oak Ridge, TN.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 21, 2013, at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow with Rev. Jack P. Weikel and Dr. J. Spurgeon McCartt officiating.

The graveside service will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Broad Street United Methodist Church, 100 E. Church Circle, Kingsport, TN, 37660.
