Vaughn S. Horn

Vaughn Stuart Horn, 87, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away at his home in Kingsport, TN, Tuesday, July 30, 2019. Vaughn was born in Paynesville, WV, on March 4, 1932. He graduated from Iaeger High School where he was the class valedictorian.  He subsequently attended West Virginia Business College, Bluefield, WV, but interrupted his studies to join the US Air Force, in which he served from October 1952 to October 1956.  While in the Air Force he worked as an accounting specialist with training in finance.  Upon leaving the Air Force he worked for his father as a welder and fabricator.  He also worked as a construction planner and scheduler, millwright, draftsman, head foreman and sheet metal foreman for Celanese Corporation of America, and mechanic for Allied Chemical Corporation.  He subsequently worked as a millwright for Kaiser Aluminum, retiring from there after 25 years.  He then went to work for Aluminum Corporation of America (ALCOA) in Evansville, IN.  He retired from ALCOA and lived out his final years with Jean in Kingsport, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Alva and Bertha Yates Horn; brothers, Dewey, Clarence and Carl; and son, Gary Wayne Horn.

Vaughn is survived by his loving wife, Jean; daughters, Sandra Khan and husband Bob, and Melinda McCoog and husband John; sister, Fay Beck; brother, Roy Horn and wife Carla; grandchildren, Jennifer Copeland, Jayme Vogt, Christina Arose, Katherine Bateman, and Zachary Arose; and nine great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2019, at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by The American Legion Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265.
