Velma Lean Blakley Galloway, 74, of Kingsport, went to rest in the arms of Jesus Christ early Friday morning at her home. Velma had lived in Kingsport for most of her life. She was a loving wife for 50 years and was a loving mother and grandmother to her family.
Mrs. Galloway was preceded in death by her parents, Dudley and Maggie Blakley; son, Roger Galloway; two sisters, Georgia Mae Puckett and Mamie Blakley; and six brothers, K.C., Paul, Ray, Arthur, Wayne, and Billy Blakley.
She is survived by her husband, Otis Dock Galloway, Jr., of Kingsport; daughters, Tammy Lawson and husband Kevin of Church Hill and Susan Powers and husband Milford of Kingsport; sons, Michael D. Galloway and wife Beth of Knoxville and Thomas Galloway of Kingsport; eleven grandchildren, Jonathan Walters, Justin Walters, Jeremiah Walters, Matthew Lawson, Ricky Crawford, Brittany Galloway, Amanda Galloway, Tyler Galloway, Kayla Powers, Kristin Powers, and Anthony Powers; great-grandson, Parker Walters; brothers, Enos Blakley of Kingsport and Earnest Blakley and wife Edith of Kingsport; sisters-in-law, Goldie Blakley, Ann Blakley, and Ann Blakley; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A funeral service will follow at 8:00 p.m. with Chaplain Mike Pelham officiating.
Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at East Lawn Memorial Park. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
